Adair County approves reduced-maintenance designation and vacates portion of 350th Street after joint Guthrie County hearings

The Adair County Board of Supervisors on March 3 approved two joint resolutions with Guthrie County to change the maintenance status and to vacate sections of 350th Street along the county line, voting 4–0 with Supervisor Wedemeyer absent.
The board adopted Resolution #2026-21 to designate a portion of 350th Street as Area Service "B," establishing restricted access and a minimal level of maintenance under Iowa Code Section 309.57. The resolution describes the segment beginning at the Adair–Guthrie county line 330 feet west of the northeast corner of Section 2, Township 77 North, Range 30 West, then running west on the north line of Section 2 for 1,363.56 feet. The board opened a joint public hearing at 9:16 a.m. and closed it at 9:18 a.m.; no comments were received by either county.
Minutes record the board then adopted Resolution #2026-22 to vacate and close a portion of 350th Street as recorded in county road records. The vacated segment includes a portion recorded in Adair County Road Record Book 3 and a stretch described as 1,815.00 feet east of the northwest corner of Section 2, again on the Adair–Guthrie county line. The joint hearing on the vacation opened at 9:20 a.m. and closed at 9:21 a.m.; the board recorded no written or oral objections and approved the closure.
Engineer Nick Kauffman updated supervisors on related roadwork and maintenance planning, reporting that contractor Govig is working on N11 Lincoln and W18 Harrison and that tree clearing operations are ongoing. Kauffman said the Orient powerplant access road project is scheduled to start in about two weeks and that dirt work on N7 Eureka is nearly complete. He told the board Decatur County had lost equipment in a recent fire and the county offered mutual aid "after our needs were met." Kauffman also said an architect from Boston contacted the county about relocating the N16 Washington Bridge to downtown Dubuque, a structure the county has considered replacing.
Roll call votes on both resolutions were recorded as: Walker, aye; Hoadley, aye; Baier, aye; Christoffersen, aye; Wedemeyer, absent. The board signed both resolutions and recorded the changes in county records. The meeting adjourned at 9:22 a.m.
