Canton ISD trustees approve consent agenda, annual audit and call May 2 election

The Canton ISD Board of Trustees approved routine business items during its Jan. 12 meeting, including the consent agenda and the annual financial audit report, and formally called the May 2 School Board Trustee General Election.
The consent agenda — which included minutes of the Dec. 15, 2025 regular meeting, monthly financial reports and authorization for the superintendent to hire contract personnel — passed on a motion by Josh Wilkerson, seconded by Matt Dunn, with a recorded vote of 7–0.
The board also approved a motion by Julie Stern, seconded by Josh Wilkerson, to accept the annual financial audit report for the year ended Aug. 31, 2025; the recorded vote was 7–0. Separately, the board called the School Board Trustee General Election for Saturday, May 2, 2026; the filing window was announced as Jan. 14–Feb. 13, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.
During the superintendent's report, Dr. Brian Nichols reported district enrollment at 2,228 students with campus totals of CHS 636, CJH 546, CIH 518 and CES 528. He also highlighted recent student achievements in band and athletics, and provided a list of upcoming dates and events. A district bus damaged in an October accident is estimated to require $26,987.12 in repairs and is expected to be back in service by month-end, according to the minutes.
All voting items recorded unanimous approval by the seven trustees present.
