Valley Transit board approves RTA fleet-management software contract

Valley Transit’s board approved a contract with Ron Turley & Associates (RTA) to replace the agency’s aging fleet-maintenance software after the previous vendor stopped supporting the product.

Staff presented the board with a recommendation to enter a five-year service contract with three one-year options. Staff said the total projected cost would be about $119,547 if all option years are exercised, with the first-year payment stated as $25,003.35. The vendor was described as established, serving roughly 1,000 agencies nationwide. The board voted by voice to approve the award.

"We issued a request for proposal, reviewed and scored the proposals, and the evaluation team unanimously agreed to a proposal from RTA," said Ron Torrance, who presented the recommendation. He told the board the software met Valley Transit’s requirements for extracting data needed for the National Transit Database and for routine fleet maintenance tracking.

Board members asked whether the contract would provide access to all vendor features. Torrance said the agency included the capabilities it needs, including the NTD data extraction, and that some vendor features used by non-transit businesses would not be part of the core package.

The board approved the contract by voice vote. Staff said the contract includes option years that would increase total cost if exercised; the agency will return to the board if it chooses to activate those extensions.
