The Utilities Committee recommended that the Common Council approve a design contract to McMahon Associates, Inc., for the K2B Pond Rehabilitation project. Deputy Director Neuberger explained that the pond is a regional stormwater facility built about 20 years ago before current DNR wet‑pond standards were in place. He said staff previously consulted McMahon in 2019 to evaluate the pond’s performance and that one major improvement—the construction of a new inlet of about 500 feet of 60‑inch storm sewer—has already been completed. Neuberger described shoreline erosion driven by three main factors: muskrat damage, wave action on a larger pond, and a silty soil layer at the waterline, and said the proposed design work would address a new outlet structure, shoreline stabilization, and other restoration and maintenance needs.
Committee members had no further questions and approved the recommendation to forward the award to the Common Council for final approval.
Next steps: the committee’s 4–0 recommendation will be forwarded to council counsel next Wednesday for final action.
