City reports $150,000 WEDC site-assessment grant for PAC lot; Calumet EPA funds for investigation

Deputy Director Chris told the Community Development Committee on Jan. 14 that the city has secured outside funding to advance environmental review of a city-owned lot north of the PAC facility that the PAC had earlier proposed to purchase.
Chris said Calumet County has allocated EPA funding to support an initial site investigation and that the city was "recently notified that we will be receiving, a grant amount of $150,000 through the WEDC, site assessment grant fund." He said the city will need a budget amendment to recognize $150,000 in revenue and $150,000 in corresponding expenses to pay for the site assessment work.
Staff noted the earlier council resolution authorized pursuit of outside grant funding and signing related agreements if funds were secured; the committee received the update for informational purposes only. Chris also provided a routine inspection-division permit summary showing slightly fewer permits in January but higher estimated construction costs compared with the prior year and similar permit revenue.
What happens next: Staff will bring a budget amendment to recognize the WEDC grant revenue and related expenses and will continue site assessment work supported by Calumet County EPA funds and the WEDC award.
