Committee reviews updated lead-exposure policy that lists city locations and training steps

Director Ratman credited risk manager Brian Morgan and an outside industrial hygienist for work on the policy. Ratman said the updated draft lists each city area where lead was identified — including lead service pipes, an indoor shooting range, duty weapons carried by employees, and paint on fire hydrants — and adds training and procedural guidance for employees who may encounter lead.
"This updated policy has every single area where we've identified lead in the city. So, lead pipes, indoor shooting range, with employees, their their duty weapons, paint that's on the fire hydrants," Ratman said. He added that the industrial hygienist performed testing and that, "there is no significant exposure according to what OSHA would say standards," and that the policy includes controls and training to prevent employee exposure.
