Giddings — At its Feb. 19 regular meeting, the Giddings ISD Board of Trustees approved several routine and programmatic items affecting the district calendar, procurement, intergovernmental operations and curriculum support.
The board voted unanimously to make Friday, March 6, 2026 a full school day to make up for a bad‑weather day on Jan. 26 and approved the recommended 2026–27 district calendar (Calendar A) from the District Improvement Committee. Trustees also approved a joint election and contract for election services with the Washington County Elections Administrator, which will govern district participation in any upcoming local elections.
On procurement, the board approved a copier contract with Ricoh. The motion passed 7–0.
Trustees approved a resolution adopting the Lee County Hazard Mitigation Plan (2025 update), which the district said was prepared in coordination with county and regional stakeholders to preserve eligibility for certain federal mitigation funds.
The board also voted not to approve a proposed resolution related to Senate Bill 11 that would have established a daily period for prayer or reading of religious texts; the motion to decline adoption carried 7–0.
In curriculum and grants discussion, Assistant Superintendent Shane Holman told trustees the district had applied for a LASO grant and that an award of $653,000 over three years (LIFT component) would fund leadership and instructional support, including contracting with a service center to implement the Bluebonnet curriculum and PLC support across campuses.
The consent agenda approved at the start of the meeting included payment of January 2026 bills, campus activity account reviews, budget review and acceptance of donations. Two donation letters included in the record note a $300 donation from Giddings Fiesta to the boys soccer program and a $4,717.48 donation from Little Dribblers to purchase basketballs for the high‑school activity account.
All motions listed above were recorded in the minutes with mover/second and unanimous trustee votes unless otherwise noted.
