Giddings ISD board calls May 2 election for two trustee seats; some county election contracts reviewed or tabled

The Giddings ISD Board of Trustees voted Jan. 15 to call a general election on May 2, 2026, for two board trustee positions. The motion, made by Trustee Spencer Schneider and seconded by Trustee Martin Rangel, passed on a 6-0 vote with one trustee absent. Voting locations will include Giddings City Hall for early voting and election day, and the election will be conducted jointly with the City of Giddings.
During the same agenda section administrators presented related inter-local and election-service items. The board approved an inter-local agreement with the Lee County Elections Administrator to administer ballots for the district. Trustees took no action on a separate Fayette County contract because Lee County Elections staff will handle Fayette County voters for this election, as documented in BoardBook. A proposed contract with the Washington County Elections Administrator was not available before the meeting and was tabled to the February meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Ray DeSpain and other staff described the agreements as standard annual items; the Lee County inter-local agreement passed on unanimous recorded support of those present.
