Giddings ISD reports tennis-court upgrade, security audit praise, 1,792 enrollment and pending Head Start title clearance

Superintendent Dr. Ray DeSpain reported at the Oct. 16 board meeting that the district has completed resurfacing and lighting work on the tennis courts, addressed a drainage/runoff concern at the elementary bus exit, and received complimentary feedback from a Region 13 security reviewer on the district’s safety preparations.
"As of the 10th, Our enrollment is 1,792," DeSpain told trustees, and he reminded the board that the PEIMS snapshot for official enrollment and UIL realignment is Oct. 31.
DeSpain said a Region 13 visitor was "very, very, very complimentary" of the district’s safety and security measures but identified one door at the far end of the gym that had been left unlocked; staff have taken steps to rectify the finding. He also described completed tennis-court surface work and new lighting, with final electrical connection pending.
On property matters, DeSpain said finalization of a land sale for the former elementary property is pending clearance by Botts Title Company because a Head Start lease on the old property used an older address (1010) while the new survey lists the building at 1058; title must clear the overlap before closing.
The superintendent’s report summarized facilities progress, an underway security audit follow-up, enrollment numbers used for TEA/UIL reporting, and the land-sale administrative steps remaining. The board received the report; no formal action was recorded on the facilities, security or land-sale items during the meeting.
