Giddings ISD campuses report testing, awards and holiday events; theater department lists donation

Giddings — Campus principals and coaches updated the board Dec. 11 on recent testing, awards and extracurricular activity across the district.
Giddings Elementary Principal Shayne Kirts said fall testing began after Thanksgiving, students participated in Santa's Workshop and the campus is preparing for grade-level performances and Christmas parties. Giddings Intermediate Principal Mitch Pope reported Region 13 honored staff member Brittany Davis as Region 13 Star of the Month and previewed the Christmas carnival and academic competitions.
Athletic Director Coach Hobbs reported the boys varsity basketball team was 7'and'1 and the girls won two straight; middle-school squads have early wins; a powerlifting meet planned Jan. 3 will be a major event. High School Principal Chad Seitz said 100% of students attended recent EOC boot camps and retests and noted band and theater performances.
Middle School Principal Charlotte Penn said student council and Beta Club organized a food drive that collected more than 300 canned goods and raised over $700 for the Giddings Food Pantry.
The board packet included a December 2025 letter from Theater Arts Director April Daniels documenting a donation from Rawad and Rouba Mitri of 70 dinners (valued at $11 each) to support the GHS theater production of Romeo & Juliet; the letter states the gift will help the department with equipment, costumes and fundraising for a trip to a Broadway production.
The board recognized two Giddings Elementary artists chosen for the district holiday cards and then moved on to financial and policy items.
