Giddings — Superintendent Dr. Ray DeSpain told the Giddings ISD Board of Trustees on Dec. 11 that the district believes the planned sale of elementary property is "all systems are go" and is tentatively scheduled for a January closing date.
DeSpain said the district has "checked almost all the boxes" toward closing but that a few items remain, including title and coordination with the Head Start program. Assistant Superintendent Andy Masek clarified that the district's attorney is working with Head Start on title matters and that construction plans must be approved by the planning and zoning committee before the sale can close.
DeSpain and Masek offered a range of tentative dates during the discussion: DeSpain referenced Jan. 20 as the tentative closing date; Masek listed Jan. 24 and Jan. 27 in the course of the same exchange while noting the two outstanding items that must be resolved first. Neither the board nor district staff recorded a formal vote on the sale during open session.
What happens next: the sale requires resolution of title/head-start coordination and planning-and-zoning approval of construction plans before the district proceeds to closing. DeSpain did not state a final contract date in the public minutes; the dates reported are tentative and contingent on completing the listed steps.
The superintendent also reported a district enrollment of 1,793 and fall attendance of 94.48% during the same report to the board.
