Committee approves 6% market adjustment for ITS Computer Technician after initial proposal fails
Summary
After an initial motion to broadly support a market adjustment failed, the committee approved a targeted 6% increase for the IT Computer Technician (grade H); vote was 4 Aye, 1 Nay, 2 Absent.
IT Director Jason Rhodes told the committee the ITS department has been "having difficulty filling positions," saying recent hires left for higher pay; he proposed a market adjustment to make the Computer Technician position more competitive.
HR Director Jenni Lueneburg and Finance Director Tina Smigielski cautioned that implementation needs to limit pay compression and preserve grade differentials. A motion by Chairman Fried and Scott Holewinski to support the proposal and move forward with implementation discussion failed (all present voted Nay). Schreier then moved, with Hess seconding, to adopt Option 2: a 6% increase for the IT Computer Technician at grade H. After a break and further discussion about wage schedules and compression, that motion passed 4–1 (Fried voted Nay; Jensen and Showalter were absent).
The committee asked Finance and HR to work on implementation details and report any potential impacts to other pay grades. No immediate changes to other grades were adopted during the meeting.
