At its March 4 meeting, the Oneida County Planning and Development Committee handled a mix of approvals, referrals and discussion items affecting local land use across the county.
The committee approved a preliminary two‑unit conversion condominium plat for the 8500 Place Condominium (TA Solberg Co., Inc.) submitted by Wilderness Surveying; approval included two staff conditions requiring condominium declarations to be submitted for review before recording and review of future amendments prior to recording. The motion to approve was made by Billy Fried, seconded by Dan Hess, and carried unanimously.
The committee approved two rezone petitions submitted by Gregory Meyer (agent Eric Klein). Rezone Petition #03‑2025 (PIN WR‑97‑13) and Rezone Petition #10‑2025 (PINs WR‑97‑3 and WR‑97‑5) would reclassify properties in the Town of Woodruff from District #2 (Single Family Residential) to District #7 (Business B‑2). Both petitions were approved by committee vote and will be forwarded to the Oneida County Board via resolution; motions were moved and seconded by committee members and carried unanimously.
On proposed ordinance changes, staff reviewed Ordinance Amendment #13‑2025 (Chapter 9 updates to Article 3, Section 9.37 and Article 8, Section 9.82); the committee conferred with corporation counsel and directed staff to implement the discussed changes and return for review (discussion only, no vote). Staff also reviewed retroactive tourist rooming house administrative review permits (ARPs) and will take no further action at this time. A proposed boat parking area on property that includes state‑owned parcels in the Town of Woodruff was discussed; staff said it had sent a formal letter to the DNR and that further conversation with the DNR is anticipated (discussion only).
The committee reviewed proposed changes to Chapter 9 (zoning permit requirement and exceptions) and additional building height information that had been requested previously. The committee directed staff to work with corporation counsel and bring back the zoning permit amendment for further review; it voted to send the building height restriction proposal to public hearing (motion by Bob Almekinder, second by Mitchell Ives; unanimous).
Committee business also included approval of the February 18, 2026 minutes (motion by Dan Hess, second by Mitchell Ives; unanimous), discussion of 2026 Planning and Zoning Department priorities (no action), scheduling future meetings for April 1 and April 15, 2026, and adjourning at 3:13 p.m.
Items that were discussed but not decided — including Ordinance Amendment #13‑2025 implementation details, retroactive TRH ARPs, and the boat parking area on state parcels — will return to the committee as staff continues consultations with corporation counsel and state agencies.
