Llano ISD board authorizes TEA waivers and approves book purchases

The Llano ISD Board of Trustees on Sept. 22 voted to authorize the district to seek two waivers from the Texas Education Agency and approved a purchase of instructional books.

Kristi Payton, Director of Special Education, told the board that a Local Education Agency that cannot provide appropriately certified bilingual or ESL teachers must request a Bilingual Exception and a temporary alternative method from the TEA. Paul Hull moved to authorize Llano ISD to seek the Bilingual Exception and ESL waiver; Grant Morgan seconded the motion, which passed 6–0 with one member absent (Cody Fly).

By separate motion, Dean Campbell moved and Jeff Kuykendall seconded to authorize Llano ISD to seek a Staff Development Minutes Waiver from the TEA; that motion also passed 6–0 with one absence. The board approved a list of books that had been posted on the district website for at least 30 days after Rob Wilson moved and Grant Morgan seconded the purchase motion; the vote was 6–0, one absence.

The meetings minutes show the consent agenda — which included prior meeting minutes and noted no budget amendments for the month — was approved by the same 6–0 vote. The record does not specify dollar amounts for the book purchases or detail the content of the book list beyond stating it had been posted for the required 30-day period.
