Commission approves SPLOST intergovernmental agreement, library appointment and new Wims Center fees

On Dec. 10 the Stewart County commission approved a 2025 SPLOST intergovernmental agreement with Lumpkin and Richland, appointed Gussie Thomas to the library board, accepted a Housing Authority resignation, approved a $925 map reprint cost and set Wims Center rental fees at $300/$500.
The Stewart County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 10 approved several administrative items and routine votes: entry into the 2025 SPLOST intergovernmental agreement with the cities of Lumpkin and Richland; appointment of Gussie Thomas to the Stewart County Library Board; acceptance of Tommy Bishop’s resignation from the Housing Authority; authorization of $925 for county map reprints by the Sheriff’s Office; and new rental fees for the Wims Center.
Vice Chair Arcola Scott moved to enter the SPLOST intergovernmental agreement; Commissioner Thomas Mayo seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The minutes record that the SPLOST intergovernmental agreement was approved and will operate between the county and the two named municipalities.
Commissioner Joe Lee Williams moved to appoint Gussie Thomas to the Library Board; Commissioner Tyrone Nelson seconded and the motion passed. The board also accepted the resignation of Tommy Bishop from the Housing Authority on a motion by Commissioner Williams, seconded by Commissioner Mayo. The commission approved $925 to cover the cost of reprinting county road maps requested by the Sheriff’s Office.
Vice Chair Scott raised housekeeping concerns at the Wims Center after a recreation group’s practice nights; the board set rental fees of $300 for auditorium use, and $500 for auditorium plus gym use. The proposed renaming of Camp Road to Haynes Road was tabled to the Jan. 14, 2025 meeting for further consideration.
The minutes also record County Attorney Bin Minter’s report and a motion by Commissioner Joe Lee Williams to opt in on House Bill 581; the vote carried and the topic will be placed on the Jan. 14, 2025 agenda for follow-up.
