Stewart County awards infrastructure and facilities contracts, accepts national opioid settlement

The Stewart County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 14 unanimously approved several contract awards and accepted the proposed National Opioid Settlement as part of routine county business.
Chairwoman Arcola Scott moved to award the Stewart County CDBG septic systems contract to Dixon Environmental for $91,380.00; Commissioner MaQuonzie Thomas seconded the motion and all commissioners voted in favor. Commissioner Joe Lee Williams moved to accept the lower bid from North Georgia Concrete, Inc. for the Moore's Store Road culvert at $252,670.00; Vice-Chair Thomas Mayo seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Commissioner Tyrone Nelson moved to accept Ultimate Home Care's $26,000.00 bid to repair the Senior Center roof; MaQuonzie Thomas seconded and the award passed on a unanimous vote.
Also on the agenda, Chairwoman Arcola Scott moved to keep the Nov. 11, 2025 Commission meeting on the calendar; Commissioner Tyrone Nelson seconded and the motion carried. Scott later moved to accept the proposed National Opioid Settlement; Commissioner Joe Lee Williams seconded and the board accepted the settlement unanimously.
Commissioner Joe Lee Williams moved to accept the September 2025 financial reports; Vice-Chair Thomas Mayo seconded and commissioners approved the reports. Public Safety Administrator Greg Stewart presented the September EMS report and the board set an open house for the new EMS Center on Oct. 24, 2025 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
County Manager Mac Moye delivered updates on Road Department topics and county operations covering Sept. 9–Oct. 14, 2025; County Attorney Bin Minter provided legal updates for the commission to review. The board noted a 2026 budget hearing is scheduled for the Nov. 2, 2025 work session. The meeting adjourned at 5:41 p.m.
The actions recorded at the Oct. 14 meeting will be reflected in formal minutes and contract records maintained by the county clerk.
