The Stewart County Board of Commissioners voted August 13 to propose a 2024 millage rate of 11.5960. Commissioner Joe Lee Williams moved the proposal and Commissioner Tyrone Nelson seconded; the motion carried on a unanimous vote.
County Attorney Bin Minter briefed the board on procedural steps the county must take to adopt a proposed millage rate, and Vice-Chair Arcola Scott said this was the first time in her 20 years of service on the board that a millage rate increase had been proposed. The board did not adopt a final rate at the meeting; the motion put the 11.5960 rate forward for the required public-notice and adoption steps.
