Stewart County and Water Authority hold roundtable; charter reviewed and citizens given opportunity to ask questions

On July 27, 2024 the Stewart County Board of Commissioners and the Stewart County Water Authority Board convened a roundtable discussion at the Stewart County Courthouse with Vice Chair Arcola Scott presiding.
Water Authority board members in attendance included Darryl Daniels (Chair), Dan Hudson, Kenneth Josey, Stonie Patterson and Kelli Kite; Rebecca Buchan attended as clerk. Members and commission staff were provided a copy of the Water Authority charter from the Code of Stewart County and had an opportunity to ask questions and exchange information intended to improve coordination between the boards.
Citizens in attendance were given an opportunity to ask questions of both boards. The minutes note that the exchange was informational; there was no formal action taken by either board during the July 27 session. The meeting adjourned at 11:03 AM.
The July 9 commission minutes had earlier recorded a public commenter, Peggy Mitchell, raising concerns about the Stewart County Water Authority; at the July 9 meeting the commission subsequently voted to request that the Water Authority Board meet before the August 13, 2024 commission meeting. The July 27 roundtable provided an occasion for shared review of the authority’s charter and for public questions, but the record shows no decisions or policy changes resulted from the session.
