Stewart County commissioners approve minutes, accept March finances; resume dumpster pickup in 4–1 vote

The Stewart County Board of Commissioners met April 8, 2025, at the Stewart County Courthouse and approved the March 11, 2025 minutes and accepted the county’s March financial reports.
Chairwoman Arcola Scott moved to approve the March 11 minutes with corrections; Vice-Chair Thomas Mayo seconded and the motion carried with all votes in favor. Commissioner Joe Lee Williams moved to accept the March 2025 financial reports; Vice-Chair Mayo seconded and the board voted to accept the reports unanimously.
In old business, Commissioner Tyrone Nelson moved that Mr. Charles Tarver return to picking up excess trash around the county’s dumpsters. Vice-Chair Thomas Mayo seconded the motion. Commissioners Tyrone Nelson, MaQuonzie Thomas, Thomas Mayo and Joe Lee Williams voted in favor; Chairwoman Arcola Scott voted opposed. The motion carried.
Following the dumpster motion, Nicklaus Watford of 121 Disposal Company described his company’s services and was asked to collect pricing figures for the board to consider at the next workshop.
The meeting concluded with brief commissioner comments on mowing and the Streetscape Project. Commissioner Tyrone Nelson moved to adjourn; Vice-Chair Mayo seconded, the board voted in favor, and the meeting adjourned at 6:54 p.m.
