Stewart County commissioners approve indigent defense contract, multiple county agreements and a reappointment

Vice Chair Arcola Scott convened the Stewart County Board of Commissioners on July 9, 2024 at the Stewart County Courthouse, where the board approved a set of contracts, accepted financial and departmental reports and reappointed a member to a county board.
David Winheim, Public Defender for the Southwestern Judicial Circuit, presented the FY2025 indigent defense request. Commissioner Joe Lee Williams moved to accept the Indigent Defense Contract between the Office of the Circuit Public Defender (Southwestern Judicial Circuit) and Stewart County for $35,135.67; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Thomas Mayo and passed unanimously.
The commission also approved an agreement among the Stewart County Health Department, the Stewart County Board of Commissioners and New Horizons Behavioral Health; Commissioner Joe Lee Williams moved approval and Commissioner Tyrone Nelson seconded. A Planning and Zoning technical assistance contract with RVRC was accepted at an annual cost of $6,000 after a motion by Commissioner Joe Lee Williams and a second by Commissioner Thomas Mayo. The board accepted an Agreement to Accept Donation of dirt between County Manager Mac Moye and Andrew Moye to supply material for the EMS ambulance shed following a motion by Commissioner Joe Lee Williams and a second by Commissioner Tyrone Nelson.
Vice Chair Arcola Scott moved to reappoint Larry Smith to the Stewart County Board of Family and Children Services; Commissioner Tyrone Nelson seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. The board also voted to accept the June 2024 financial reports (motion by Commissioner Joe Lee Williams).
Nea Permenter, chair of the Parks Memorial Library Board, requested an additional $100 per month for the FY2025 library budget; the commission took no action on that request during the meeting. County Attorney Bin Minter provided a legal update, and County Manager Mac Moye presented his report covering June 11–July 9, 2024.
Vice Chair Scott and commissioners adjourned the meeting at 6:01 PM.
