North Haledon updates multiple road, sidewalk and field projects; Squaw Brook stabilization near completion

The Borough of North Haledon on June 18 received progress reports on several local infrastructure projects from Borough Engineer Joseph Pomante. Pomante said the Squaw Brook Road bank stabilization project is "near completion," with guard rails expected in about two weeks and erosion issues addressed so the contractor can finish the work.
Pomante told the council the Squaw Brook Road improvements package is currently with the New Jersey Department of Transportation for approval to go out to bid; once DOT approval is received, the borough expects to advertise bids in the next few weeks. He said the 2025 Road Program is finalizing bid documents and should be ready to go out to bid within about a week, with work moving quickly over the following month.
The engineer also reported materials delays for the Overlook Avenue/High Mountain Road intersection improvements, with materials currently expected to arrive in July. Linda Vista sidewalk work is in the punchlist phase; rain has delayed concrete finishing but Pomante said the project "should be completed soon" once weather permits. Manchester Avenue improvements were listed as a project for next year.
Pomante reported the borough recently received its third Passaic County Open Space Grant and recommended beginning design and equipment planning for a park project; Councilwoman Donna Puglisi suggested staff monitor end-of-season sales from playground vendors to potentially reduce costs. Pomante added that recent soccer-field work involved several local contractors and required additional topsoil because underlying material was poor, but the collaboration saved the borough money.
Next steps disclosed at the meeting: waiting on DOT approval for one road project, placing the 2025 Road Program out to bid, monitoring material deliveries for the intersection work and completing concrete punchlist items for Linda Vista when weather allows. No funding votes or contract awards were recorded in the work-session minutes.
