North Haledon reviews open-space grant application, road projects and a multi-item consent agenda including bond authorization

The application is intended to request the balance of funding from prior 2023 and 2024 grant applications, and the minutes record a public hearing on the grant scheduled for March. Pomante also reported that the Squaw Brook Road improvements are awaiting final materials; the project will begin once materials arrive and “one lane may have to be closed at some point during construction,” though staff said they are trying to avoid closures.
Council members were told the borough is compiling its 2025 road improvement candidate list and "have about 1.6 million in possible streets," which will be narrowed and discussed in March. The minutes present that $1.6 million figure as an approximate total of candidate streets rather than a finalized budget.
The consent agenda read into the record lists 17 items ranging from personnel appointments and contract awards to capital financing. Items enumerated include authorization for application to the Passaic County Open Space grant (item 3); award of contracts for diesel fuel and gasoline; an award for 2025 Silverado Crew (Gentilini); acceptance of a proposal for a new DPW roof; purchase authorization for 10 sets of turnout gear from New Jersey Fire Equipment Co. utilizing NJ State Contract 17-Fleet-00805 pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:11-12a; an award of contract for fireworks; janitorial and other service contracts; and a set of bond and loan authorizations described as "not to exceed $2,300,000" in general obligation bonds and related loan agreements with the New Jersey Infrastructure Bank/State of New Jersey and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
