Marlboro County Council reviews finance report, county events and PD COG planning assistance

Marlboro County’s Finance Director, Wes Park, told the County Council on Dec. 9, 2025 that general fund revenue for the month ending Nov. 30 totaled $4,185,350 compared with $3,777,522 for the same period a year earlier; year‑to‑date expenditures were $6,702,160 of a $16,442,894 budget (40.64% of budget).
"All indications are that we are on course with both revenues and expenditures in the current budget year," Park said, characterizing the year‑over‑year revenue increase as a timing difference rather than a structural shift.
County Administrator Wilson A. Clyburn briefed council members on upcoming county events including the City of Bennettsville tree lighting, a county employee Christmas dinner on Dec. 10 and courthouse caroling on Dec. 16. He said staff are still awaiting DHEC action on the proposed Aquatic Center and are researching operating procedures and cost estimates.
Joette Dukes, director of the Pee Dee Council of Governments, thanked council for its support and noted PD COG board members from Marlboro County; Pearly Lawson said PD COG offered to help Marlboro County with its planning and zoning ordinance and asked staff for a copy of the county board‑members list.
The council heard several brief member remarks — holiday greetings and local notes — before adjourning at 7:25 p.m.
