Marlboro County Council unanimously approved on Jan. 21 the third reading of Ordinance No. 878, authorizing the sale of a portion of Tax Map #027-00-02-048 on the south side of Industrial Lane and the county-owned building known as the "Spec" building to a prospect identified in the ordinance as "Speckled."
The vote followed a public hearing at which no members of the public spoke. Chairman Anthony Woods closed the hearing before the council moved to final consideration and adoption. The ordinance authorizes the sale of up to 10 acres, with the precise acreage to be determined by a new survey, and conveys the county's interest in the Spec building to the buyer and its successors and assigns.
Councilmember Steve Blackmon moved approval of the third reading; Dr. Damien Johnson seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
The ordinance language presented to the council specifies that the acreage will be determined by new survey work and that the transaction covers the building referenced as the "Spec" facility. The minutes record that the matter drew no public comment during the hearing.
The minutes of the meeting show the action recorded and the meeting minutes were later attested by Chairman Anthony Woods and Clerk Susan E. Rivers. The council's approval clears the way for whatever next steps are required under county policy and applicable closing procedures, including completing the survey and finalizing sale documents.
