The Carmel Unified School District Board approved the second interim financial report and issued a positive certification that the district can meet its financial obligations for the current and next two fiscal years.
Chief Business Official Yvonne Perez said the combined general fund revenue was projected at about $89.7 million against projected expenditures of roughly $87.6 million, producing a projected ending fund balance of about $25.7 million (approximately 27% of expenditures). Perez highlighted that the board maintains reserves beyond the state minimum (5% for economic uncertainty plus an additional set-aside of approximately $16.3 million for property-tax volatility) and that salaries and benefits account for roughly 80% of expenditures.
Perez noted fiscal pressures that will require continued attention — ongoing labor negotiations, pension costs, higher special-education contributions and aging facilities — but concluded that the district's multiyear projections and reserve policies support a positive certification. Board members thanked staff for the clear presentation and approved the certification.
Action: the board approved the second interim budget report with a positive certification (motion and second on the record).
