Germantown Park committee seeks $150,000 up‑front to fast‑track repairs and new amenities

"We're seeking funding for a series of essential infrastructure upgrades and equipment purchases," Karen said, reviewing itemized estimates that include a bathroom building addition (~$24,788), bathroom plumbing (~$19,500), dugouts (~$33,504), pickleball slab and surfacing, and playground equipment (~$10,288.90). The total projected cost in the packet was $150,026.15.
The presenter stressed safety and accessibility upgrades, including more restroom capacity and the addition of an adaptive swing. Members asked about prior grants and vendor options to reduce shipping costs; one magistrate noted a prior $50,000 allocation in October 2023 and another cited a $75,000 grant used for field and stage improvements.
After discussion about vendor sourcing, county contributions, and whether neighboring counties might assist, Sandy Roof moved to include the request in the July 1 budget and Debbie Mayfield seconded. The clerk will check with the Department for Local Government about whether an interlocal agreement is required for the proposed advancement. Kevin Jarrell recused himself from the vote because of his involvement with the park committee; the motion carried.
Next steps: directors and committee members will meet with magistrates and the architect as needed to finalize bid documents; the funding inclusion is pending formal budget adoption on July 1.
