Trustees conducted the first reading of Board Policy 1340 (access to district records). Trustee Schultz moved to conduct the first reading; the motion was seconded and the board approved the motion in a reported voice vote.
The board then conducted the first reading of Board Policy 6142.1, on health and HIV/AIDS prevention instruction. Trustee Sandra Crandall noted changes in the draft designed to make the policy current and to clarify parental rights. Crandall highlighted language that "the district shall respect the rights of parents/guardians to supervise their children's education on these subjects" and said the revised draft specifies that parents may request in writing at the start of the year or upon enrollment to opt their student out of participating without disciplinary action or academic penalty.
Following those readings, the board considered the consent calendar. Trustees moved to approve all 22 consent items in a single motion; the motion was seconded and the board approved the consent calendar by voice vote (reported 5–0).
What’s next: Both policies were presented for first reading; further consideration or a second reading could follow per board policy and normal adoption process.
