The Scotland Public Library board on April 8 approved minutes and routine financial and director reports, discussed building maintenance and technology upgrades, and began planning a June 7 building birthday celebration, Secretary Brenda Gagnon said.
The board accepted the March minutes after a motion from board member Bobbie Maschka that Leahbeth Scandura seconded. Mary Geragotelis delivered the March financial report, saying the trust account was slightly up and that a matured bond had been reinvested; the board accepted the treasurer’s report on a motion by Maschka and a second from Linda Segar. Geragotelis, who presented the director’s report, said circulation and attendance statistics for March were distributed and that the library’s management software vendor had been acquired by Soutron Global; she said no immediate changes are expected.
Geragotelis also said she will not continue her work with the School Readiness program as it restructures into Early Start CT, and noted that “some grant money may be lost” because of federal changes to the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The board voted to accept the director’s report (motion carried; mover and seconder recorded; vote tally not specified).
Under unfinished business, the board said a building maintainer was expected to repair outdoor lighting before leaving the position in April; if not completed the First Selectman will address the issue. The board confirmed that the children’s section mural is in place and credited Mary and Kim for the work. An Eagle Scout trail and bridge maintenance project remains on hold pending better weather, and the board said it will seek a quote from Advanced Office Systems for planned computer upgrades.
On new business, the board continued planning a June 7 drop-in building birthday event from 9 a.m. to noon, with proposed activities including an Adopt-a-Book program, a scavenger hunt, crafts, refreshments and a possible poetry reading. Geragotelis said she has submitted the proposed 2025–26 library budget and that it has been reviewed by the town treasurer. The board discussed seeking endorsements for four library board seats that will be on the November 2025 ballot and developed the May meeting agenda. The meeting was adjourned by Brenda Gagnon at 8:20 p.m.
Minutes are signed "Respectfully submitted" by Brenda Gagnon.
