Scotland reports special-education enrollment, regional summer-program planning and upcoming student events

Principal Ann Knowles and special-education staff reported 23 students with IEPs and ongoing regional collaboration for a summer program; five students advanced to the Invention Convention State Finals and PreK enrollment is anticipated at 14 for next year.
Principal Ann Knowles told the board on May 6 that five students qualified for the Invention Convention State Finals at UConn and were celebrated during the meeting. Knowles also outlined end-of-year events, including Field Day (last day of school June 11) and Step Up ceremonies for kindergarten and sixth grade scheduled June 10.
Knowles reported SBAC testing for grades 3–6 is underway in morning sessions, and staff anticipate PreK enrollment of 14 students for next year, noting tours are underway for out-of-town families interested in PreK.
The special education report recorded a census of 23 students with individualized education programs (IEPs) and one student in referral. Administrators described collaborative summer-program planning between Scotland and neighboring districts — Hampton, Chaplin, Eastford and Sprague — with Bozrah and Franklin expected to join next year. Staff said they will visit partner schools to assess student needs and coordinate services.
The board’s calendar items included a public hearing May 15, Town Meeting June 5 and Step Up ceremonies on June 10.
