A student presenter said the campaign’s mid‑September to mid‑November data showed about 70% of one fifth‑grade class participating daily, and that schoolwide fourth and fifth grade participation rose to about 30% after a campaign push — a jump from less than 5% participation on Dec. 3 to about 30% six days later. The students said the campaign reduced plastic utensil use by roughly 10% during the period described.
Trustees responded with praise for the students’ coordination and use of numbers. “That just made my day,” one trustee said, and another called the presentation “amazing,” praising both student teamwork and the adviser, Miss Arsono. The board presented certificates of appreciation to participating students.
Principal Bethel emphasized that the academic and community metrics the school tracks (CAASPP and I‑Ready scores, panorama belonging metrics) inform their programming, and he framed the environmental project as one of several student‑led initiatives that support belonging and citizenship.
