Scotland Board of Education approves FY2025-26 budget with no tax increase

The Scotland Board of Education unanimously approved its proposed FY2025-26 budget on April 1, adopting a plan with a 0% increase from the current year and staff reductions. The board voted to present the proposal to the town as its recommended spending plan.
The motion to approve the budget was made by Clark Stearns and seconded by Brittany Santiago. The board recorded the motion as #4-24/25 and carried it unanimously. Clark Stearns also led approval of the March financial reports; motions to accept the March financial report and the March 31 financial report (motions #2-24/25 and #3-24/25) were carried without objection.
Finance Coordinator Michele Demicco reported the district has spent about 71% of its budget to date and that the current projection shows a surplus of approximately $27,000. Board members asked for clarification on an unassigned benefits line tied to insurance changes and on an overbudget heating oil line; the minutes note an extra delivery and subsequent credit related to a frozen-pipe incident.
The board also approved the March 4, 2025 regular meeting minutes (motion #1-24/25), again by unanimous vote.
No public comments were recorded on the agenda items. The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for May 6, 2025, when members will continue routine oversight and policy reviews.
