Summary
Altoona approved a permanent 600-sq.-ft. easement to MidAmerican Energy for $992 to accommodate primary electrical enclosures tied to a road-widening undergrounding project; the agreement passed by roll call with no public comment.
The Altoona City Council on Oct. 6 approved an easement agreement with MidAmerican Energy Company to place primary electrical enclosures on 600 square feet of Greenway Park property as part of the Adventureland Drive widening and undergrounding project.
City Engineer John Dostart explained the request and said state law requires a public hearing before a private easement can be granted; the city must also receive fair market value for the permanent easement unless property rights are provided to a public agency. For this agreement the proposed compensation was $992 for 600 square feet.
No members of the public came forward at the hearing. The council approved the easement by roll call (Boka, Duer, Evans, Mertz and Stewart voting yes).
