The Altoona City Council on Sept. 2 approved an AIA amendment that establishes a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) of $11,483,093.27 for construction of Fire Station #26 in the city’s north industrial area.
City Engineer John Dostart said the recommended total "reflects the results of the bids received from the subcontractors on this job" and includes general conditions, DCI-purchased equipment, fees, markups and a contingency of $421,578.81. "Upon approval of this amendment, DCI Group is ready to award subcontracts and begin construction," Dostart said.
The vote to approve the amendment was recorded as 4-0. The council’s approval allows the contractor to proceed with awarding subcontracts and moving the project to construction; the transcript does not specify funding sources or construction start dates.
The project was presented as part of the council’s regular agenda; no public objections were recorded in the meeting minutes. Next procedural steps documented in the meeting record are subcontract awards by DCI Group and subsequent construction activity.
The council adjourned at 6:43 p.m.
