Resident urges board to oppose Maverick truck stop near Pinion Hills Elementary, citing safety and CEQA concerns

Hale said the project was mischaracterized in approval documents as a "local-serving" gas station rather than a regional truck facility and alleged that classification avoided a California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) analysis. She told the board the change would increase traffic on Oasis Road by an estimated 83.3%, put students at risk near 31 existing bus stops, and require reworking traffic patterns around the Pinion Hills post office. "That much traffic is definitely going to impact student safety," she said.
Hale said the community has filed multiple appeals at earlier hearings and is preparing for a San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors hearing; she asked the district and neighbors to become informed and attend. The board acknowledged the comment, thanked Hale and noted the district would share any relevant notices or advocacy information with the community.
The board did not take formal action on the project during the meeting; Hale said appeals are pending and she would notify the community when the county hearing date is set.
