Oakdale trustees elect officers and approve 2026–27 calendar and replacement bus

The Oakdale Joint Unified School District board moved several action items at the meeting, electing officers and approving operational items including the 2026–27 school calendar and a replacement bus.

On nominations brought forward for item 12.1, trustees nominated and approved a slate for board president (board member Schumpster), clerk (Duval) and the board representative to the Stanislaus County Committee on School District Organization (Taylor). The motion to elect the slate passed by voice vote; the board recorded "Aye."

Under item 12.3 the board approved the proposed 2026–27 district calendar. The calendar presented sets the first teacher workday for Aug. 4, the first student day on Aug. 6, a week-long Thanksgiving recess and a last day of school on May 27. The board approved the calendar by voice vote.

The board also authorized the purchase of a replacement bus after a 2006 Thomas bus was totaled in a September 2024 collision. District staff said the insurance adjuster determined the bus a total loss and the district had received payment for the vehicle’s replacement value. The recommended piggyback purchase price was $223,651.46 for a bus equipped with air conditioning, diesel particulate filters, emissions controls and a passenger restraint system with capacity for 76 passengers. Trustees approved the purchase by voice vote.

For transparency, staff noted they received the insurer’s replacement payment and that the district mechanics are already familiar with a similar model; trustees asked whether the claim affected insurance rates and were told there is no impact at this time.

The meeting’s routine consent calendar and the first interim financial report were also approved by voice vote earlier in the session. No roll-call tallies were provided in the transcript for these votes.
