Colton board approves package of action items, renews assistant superintendent contract and upholds student expulsion

The Colton Joint Unified School District board approved multiple action items and personnel decisions during its Feb. 5 meeting.

The board first approved a grouped package of action items numbered 6.1 through 6.32, excluding items 6.3 and 6.4 (motion by Board Member Fuentes, second by Board Member Ibarra), and carried the motion 6–0.

Action item 6.3, presented separately, was a contract renewal for Greg Frum, assistant superintendent of business services. The contract as read included a term from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027; an annual salary of $255,118; an annual work year of 222 days; a district‑provided vehicle for assistant superintendent use; and fringe benefits (medical and dental) consistent with other certificated management employees. The board approved the contract renewal on a roll‑call vote after motions by board members Harrow and Fuentes.

On action item 6.4 (approval of student assembly presentations), Board Member Fuentes disclosed a potential conflict of interest (he said he works for Young Visionaries) and left the dais and room before the vote; the board approved 6.4 in his absence (motion by Ibarra, second by Sandoval).

After an executive (closed) session, the board returned to public session and voted to uphold an expulsion order for one student (motion carried 6–0). The board also approved several personnel items in public session (coach and volunteer appointments and a classified leave of absence without pay).
