Summary
The committee approved revised technology job descriptions and authorized two district technology support associate FTEs to expand building-level technical support, a budget-neutral reorganization intended to improve response and coverage.
The Barnstable School Committee unanimously approved revised job descriptions in the district technology department and authorized two full-time-equivalent district technology support associate positions to expand first-line, building-level technical support.
Superintendent Hearn presented three updated job descriptions (district systems and infrastructure administrator, district technology specialist, and a new district technology support associate), and Executive Director of Technology Bryce Harper answered questions about the proposed roles. Harper said the support associates would serve as first-touch technicians, likely assigned to specific buildings to build relationships and resolve common issues onsite.
A motion to approve the revised district systems and infrastructure administrator job description and the district technology specialist description carried unanimously. Committee members pressed for clarity about onsite coverage, ticketing workflows, and how the new roles would be integrated with MCAS and other peak-period demands. Harper said the new tiered model would allow higher-skilled staff to focus on complex issues while support associates handle first-level troubleshooting.
Separately, the committee approved the creation of two FTE district technology support associate positions, moved and seconded in open session; the administration said this initial staffing decision was budget neutral and the budget will later reflect a third position requested in the FY27 process.
The approvals allow the administration to begin filling the newly authorized positions and proceed with the planned reorganization of the technology department.
