Newark Unified reports appointment of Victoria Knutson as assistant superintendent for business

President Jones reported out of closed session that the board approved the appointment of Victoria Knutson as assistant superintendent of business services (chief business officer). The action was recorded as a motion by Member Anguiano, a second by Member Thomas and a 5-aye vote.
Knutston's employment terms were read into the record: a prorated three-year term ending June 30, 2028; an annual salary of $250,000; 224 workdays; health benefits on the same terms as other certificated management; and a severance provision equal to three months' pay. The chair said the district is not presenting the contract at this meeting because the start date remains pending and pledged to bring the contract forward on Nov. 18.
Staff member Mike introduced Knutson to the board, highlighting her nearly two decades of experience in public education finance and operations and noting her University of California, Santa Cruz degree and leadership training. Knutson thanked the board and the community "for this opportunity" and said she looks forward to the challenge.
The board made no other formal amendments at the time of the appointment. The formal contract, when presented on Nov. 18, will contain the official effective start date and any additional administrative details.
