Dr. Lee, the district's facilities representative, told the board that summer construction work is under way across campus projects and gave a timeline for interim housing tied to school startup needs. He said exterior finishes and asbestos abatement at Los Banos High are finishing this week and that, subject to tonight's approvals, interim housing procurement will start in July, be delivered in August and be ready to house staff and students beginning Oct. 15.
When a board member asked whether the August-to-October timeline left a gap, Dr. Lee said rebidding for the interim housing increased the cost and delayed progress; he cited a rebid amount of approximately $846,000 that led to rebidding and revised procurement timing.
The board approved awarding the rebid to TBS Contractors and authorized the superintendent to sign contract documents and issue a notice to proceed. Dr. Lee also reported progress on the Volta parking-lot work, temporary arrangements for the Administration Building to be ready by August, PHS classroom work on track for August, LB Junior High fire-alarm and gym transitions, and district LED lighting work to be done after school to avoid disruption.
The contract award and the delivery/occupancy timeline make the interim housing project one of the district's near-term priorities to support start-of-school logistics.
