The Calabasas City Council directed staff to ask the Public Safety Commission to review a potential ordinance addressing electric-bike violations at its Feb. 11 meeting.
Mayor Visagian said residents continue to report problems with e-bikes and suggested the commission review Westlake Village's local ordinance and League of California Cities guidance on what cities may lawfully adopt in addition to state statutes. "I continue to receive many complaints from residents," the mayor said, and asked that the Public Safety Commission evaluate whether Calabasas should adopt similar language.
Council members supported the referral and asked staff to include a cost-recovery analysis for property damage and personal-injury incidents tied to e-bike behavior. A council member urged the commission and staff to consider both city property and private losses in any proposed ordinance.
The council did not adopt a local ordinance at the meeting; it instead requested a review by the Public Safety Commission and follow-up recommendations from staff.
