Daniel Brooks explained Camino Real was selected because it is nearby the Pacific Avenue Academy (PAM) site, already has classrooms that meet state licensing requirements, and has local demand for preschool services. He said the licensed class will be small: at most 20 students.
Trustees asked about traffic and construction timelines. Brooks and staff said Camino Real principal Bowen has developed a drop-off plan that uses a separate lot and a gated entry to allow parents to drop off and exit without interfering with main traffic peaks; staff agreed to supply the board an update on the adjacent roadwork schedule. The preschool will follow the school's start time (8:00 a.m.) and will not have district bus transportation.
The board approved the application by voice vote; the clerk announced the item passed with one board member absent and one vacant seat.
The license will allow administration to submit the required documentation to the state and implement the temporary classroom space in time for the next school year.
