Elkhart County approves resolution to join national opioid settlement

The Elkhart County Board of Commissioners on March 16 voted unanimously to approve a resolution authorizing the county to participate in a national opioid settlement overseen by the Northern District of Ohio.
County attorney Steve Olson presented the resolution and said it follows the terms of other opioid settlements the county has participated in; the resolution authorizes the county administrator to execute documents needed to receive settlement funds and apply them to community programs aimed at reducing opioid harms.
A commissioner moved to approve the resolution and the board carried the motion unanimously.
The resolution does not include unique additional terms and is consistent with the county’s prior participation in opioid litigation settlements; the motion authorizes staff to take administrative steps needed to accept funds once they are distributed under the settlement terms.
