Summary
Trustees reported on recent district events: a $13,000 donation to Rolling Hills Elementary for fire-safety radios, student CPR/AED training and emergency-vehicle visits, multiple performing arts and sports achievements, and five schools selected as California Purple Star schools.
Board members used their reports to highlight community partnerships, student activities and upcoming recognitions across the Poway Unified district.
One trustee reported that the PQ Northeast Action Group presented Rolling Hills Elementary School with a $13,000 donation to purchase walkie‑talkies to enhance emergency readiness after a fire drill revealed needs. The trustee said the donation was covered by news outlets and noted students were interviewed at the event.
Trustees also described student-organized CPR and AED training run by a heart club, visits to Abraxas and Meadowbrook that showcased programs and facilities, and several sports teams advancing to CIF finals. The board recognized recipients of grants from the Poway Unified National Foundation for Autism Research from Creekside Elementary, Painted Rock Elementary, Garden Road Elementary and a district office recipient.
In a separate report, a trustee announced five schools that will be designated Purple Star schools by the California Department of Education for their support of military-connected students: Chaparral, Midland and Sunset Hills elementary schools, Black Mountain Middle School and Mount Carmel High School. The recognition event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18 at 4:30 p.m. at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido.
The board encouraged community attendance at upcoming performances and noted the next regular meeting date.
