Mister Duran (speaker 7) used the public‑comment period to urge the New Haven Unified Board of Education to oppose board policy I‑6142.1 on health and HIV/AIDS prevention instruction.
“As a father deeply concerned for my child's well‑being and protection of their innocence, I'm here to oppose board policy I‑6142.1 on health and HIV/AIDS prevention instruction,” Duran said. He told the board the policy is “a direct assault on our values, children, and federal law” and cited “executive order 14,190 signed by President Trump on 01/29/2025” as the legal basis for his objection.
Duran accused the policy of requiring “inclusive instruction” about gender, gender identity and sexual orientation and said it encourages students to communicate about “human [sexuality]” with trusted adults. He characterized instruction about sexually transmitted diseases, unintended pregnancies, harassment, assault and affirmative consent as inappropriate for minors, saying the policy “promotes pedophilia” and “desensitizes vulnerable minds.”
The transcript records no board response during Duran’s two‑minute comment. Board protocol announced earlier in the meeting stated trustees would not respond to questions raised during public comment.
The board did not take action on Policy I‑6142.1 during the meeting; the comment appears on the record and will be part of the public record for any future deliberations on the policy.
