The Merced Union High Board approved three action items at tonight’s meeting: the superintendent’s recommended 2026 goals, a personnel resolution to eliminate one classified program manager position, and a contract to implement 24/7 managed detection and response with Arctic Wolf.
The superintendent’s goals (presented by speaker 11) were revised from earlier discussion to allow each site to choose one academic metric tied to the California State Dashboard and to require students in the freshman seminar to declare a CTE pathway as part of college-and-career readiness work. The board moved, seconded and adopted the 2026 goals.
On staffing, the board considered Board Resolution 5-25, presented by staff member Nicholson, which authorizes elimination of one classified program-manager position for the 2026–27 school year due to departmental reorganization and lack of work or funds; the effective date for the personnel action was given as July 1, 2026. Trustees moved, seconded and approved the resolution.
On cybersecurity, the board approved a partnership with Arctic Wolf, described by staff as a 24/7 managed detection-and-response service that supplements local IT staff with continuous monitoring and expert response. Staff said one-time funds could cover initial costs for the service this year and that the expense would be included in next year’s budget planning. The motion to implement Arctic Wolf beginning February 2026 was moved, seconded and approved.
Votes and procedure: Each action was moved and seconded during the meeting; the chair called the votes and recorded that the motions passed (the transcript records unanimous passage in roll calls and "motion passes"). No dissenting votes were recorded on these items in the transcript.
Next steps: Personnel notices required by education code will proceed as part of the elimination action; staff will incorporate the Arctic Wolf subscription into the next fiscal-year budget and return with any implementation details requested by trustees.
Sources and evidence: Motions, roll calls and staff presentations are recorded in the meeting transcript.
