At its Feb. 10 meeting the Marysville Joint Unified School District board approved multiple personnel and bargaining items intended to help recruit and staff special education positions and continue collective-bargaining discussions.
Dr. Gabe Simon introduced a side letter agreement with the Marysville Unified Teachers Association that will allow the district to offer a signing bonus for credentialed special-education teachers: $10,000 spread over two years (half paid after completing each year). For teachers on emergency permits or intern credentials the package provides $3,000 per year for two years, Simon said.
The board also considered a series of ‘‘sunshine’’ bargaining proposals (notice to bargain) for represented groups including CSEA Unit 648 (preschool teachers) and paraeducator units; trustees voted to approve the district’s proposals and the association proposals as listed on the agenda.
A separate agenda item approved an agreement with California State University, Chico to place nursing interns and practicum students in district sites; the board approved that contract with one abstention noted in the roll call.
Trustees approved the draft 2026–27 student calendar, which largely mirrors the current year’s schedule (two weeks at Christmas, the same general August–June span) and is coordinated with Yuba County Office of Education programs.
Several of the personnel and bargaining motions were moved and seconded on the record and carried. The board also reported earlier closed-session votes (reported out at the start of open session) that included unanimous 7–0 votes on two resolutions related to certificated personnel and multiple expulsions.
The board did not set further public hearings on these items at the meeting; implementation and next steps for the hiring incentives and bargaining proposals will proceed through district labor and HR processes.
