Diablo Vista staff told the advisory board that Contra Costa Water District has begun filling the canal and expects the process to take three to four days, giving the board the ability to schedule a system turn-on. Board members discussed target dates and agreed staff would notify residents in advance of the planned start-up; an engineer’s presence (Eric) was noted as desirable for the initial run to monitor filter pressure and flushing.
Separately, staff reported that Rodney Johnson at Contra Costa contacted the board about a flow-meter installation and calibration that Contra Costa prefers to schedule in May and that will require about three days with the pumps off. Staff said the contractor will bring a truck, replace the meter, dismantle and later reinstall a wooden walkway at the pump site, and calibrate readings; board members said May is preferable to July and agreed to include notice of the work in the newsletter.
Board members emphasized operational checks — filters flush only after reaching about 30 PSI — and said they will meet at the pump house for startup coordination and to monitor conditions. Staff will send a written notice to residents and circulate startup timing once the board confirms engineer availability.
