Craig Rouse, senior director of facilities and operations, presented a detailed summary of summer maintenance and capital work across Rockland Unified.
Rouse said the maintenance and operations team completed over 3,300 in‑house work orders and identified $1.8 million in contractor‑based routine restricted maintenance spending. He described in‑house repairs and installs: marquee signs, exterior painting, siding replacement, fence and storm‑drain repairs, new buddy benches, special‑education calming rooms, and the installation of three new electric buses (bringing the fleet to 11).
On HVAC and capital projects, Rouse reported that work on 154 HVAC units was completed or made operational before school started; phase‑1 capital facilities projects were finished over the summer. He outlined planned Phase‑2 projects for 2026, including HVAC replacements at multiple elementary and high‑school sites, stadium turf and lighting projects pending DSA review, and portable building purchases to mitigate expected price increases.
Rouse flagged supply‑chain risks and material cost escalation and said the district is seeking to be proactive—buying equipment and sequencing bids earlier to control costs. Trustees asked for a schedule of future updates; staff said they plan fall and spring updates and will bring a more detailed memo on the onetime safety and facility projects this fall.
