One trustee who opposed approval in principle said the contract contains ongoing obligations that will increase the district’s costs for multiple years, including a 5.5% salary increase for 2025–26 (retroactive to July 1, 2025) and a further 4.5% for 2026–27 — together roughly a 10% increase across two years — plus higher fixed contributions for health and welfare benefits. That trustee said the county’s requirement to show a balanced three‑year budget and structural revenue constraints made it difficult to support the contract as presented.
Other trustees said failing to invest in educator pay would worsen recruitment and retention and harm instructional continuity, especially for hard‑to‑fill positions. After discussion, the board asked for and recorded a roll‑call vote; the motion carried and the contract ratification was approved.
