The board voted to approve a tentative agreement between the district and the Carlsbad Unified Teachers Association (CUDA) reached September 12, 2025 and ratified by CUDA members on October 8.
Megan Arias summarized the agreement’s key terms: a 2% increase to the salary schedule retroactive to July 1, 2025, timing adjustments for co‑curricular stipends and non‑salary compensation, and language that the district certified it can meet its fiscal obligations via the accompanying AB financial disclosure exhibits. “Exhibit B contains the AB disclosures which certify that the district can meet its financial obligations under the proposed agreement,” Arias said.
Rachel Marino Watt, CUDA president, thanked both bargaining teams and described the contract as recognizing multiple classifications, improving teacher workspaces and aiding recruitment and retention. “This bargaining season has been one of the most challenging I faced,” Marino Watt said, while praising the collaborative outcome.
Trustees asked clarifying questions about the AB disclosure entries and which contract articles can be reopened in subsequent years. After discussion the board approved the tentative agreement and the financial disclosure by a 5‑0 vote (Trustees Ciosi, Burbank, Emery, Ward, Rawlings).
District staff said the contract language allows certain articles to be reopened in the contract term and that class‑size changes could be implemented administratively if the board chooses.
